Marka ad is given for the purpose of holding a shraddh for the deceased as a group. It is a ceremony performed in honor of a dead ancestor. The rite is both a social and a religious responsibility enjoined on all-male Hindus (with the exception of some sannyasis, or ascetics).

A scanned copy of the Death Certificate or Doctor's Certificate or Cremation Document is required as a supporting document to place the ad.

Sample Marka ads are as follows: 1. With profound grief, we inform you the Sad Demise of our beloved {deceased name}, son/ daughter of {father's name}. Deeply mourned by wife/husband, siblings. Bhog followed by Marka on {date} at {venue}. No condolences thereafter, please. 2. We regret to inform that {deceased name} expired on {date}. Bhog followed by Marka will be held on {date} at {venue}. From: {family member's name}
